Napa Technology WineStation First-Bottle Preparation Guide

1. Quick answer

The WineStation does not have internal wine lines that need to be flushed before the first bottle. Wine travels directly from the bottle through the removable pickup tube and Clean-Pour dispensing head into the glass.

Do not run sanitizer, citric solution, cleaning chemicals, or another cleaning liquid through the WineStation as a pre-use flushing procedure.

The recommended preparation sequence is:

Clean dispensing components → Install bottle → Purge with argon → Run Test Pour → Begin normal service

2. First-bottle preparation

Step 1 — Start with a clean pickup tube and dispensing head

Napa instructs the operator to use a clean pickup tube when preparing a bottle.

  • Make sure the pickup tube and Clean-Pour dispensing head are clean before use.
  • A warm-water rinse is appropriate for initial preparation.
  • Napa also permits mild dish soap for normal cleaning of removable components.
  • Allow components to drain and dry before reinstalling.
Do not use sanitizer. Napa specifically warns that sanitizer can interfere with bottle detection and may damage the dispensing head.

Step 2 — Attach the dispensing components to the bottle

  1. Open the wine bottle on a flat, dry surface.
  2. Insert the clean pickup tube into the bottle.
  3. Firmly connect the upper end of the pickup tube to the bottom of the Clean-Pour dispensing head.
  4. Install and secure the dispensing head on the bottle.
  5. Confirm the head is properly seated and secure before loading the bottle into the WineStation.

Step 3 — Load the bottle and run “New Bottle WITH Purge”

After loading the bottle, use the WineStation’s New Bottle WITH Purge function.

This is not a cleaning cycle. The purge removes air from the opened bottle and replaces it with WineGas/argon to protect the wine from oxidation.

If the bottle is not completely full, Napa notes that additional purging may be needed because there is more airspace inside the bottle.

Step 4 — Run a Test Pour

After the purge, place a glass under the spout and select Test Pour.

Napa states that the Test Pour dispenses up to approximately ¼ oz and serves two purposes:

  • It allows the operator to verify the wine is in good condition.
  • It fills/primes the pickup tube so the first normal pour will be accurate.
This Test Pour is the WineStation’s practical “priming” step. There is no separate internal wine-line flushing procedure.

Step 5 — Begin normal dispensing

Once the bottle has been purged and the Test Pour is complete, the bottle is ready for normal service.

During normal pours, Napa instructs the user to keep the glass under the spout until the final gas “puff,” which helps clear remaining wine droplets from the dispensing spout.

3. What not to do

  • Do not run a bottle of sanitizer through the WineStation.
  • Do not run citric cleaning solution through the WineStation.
  • Do not assume there are internal wine lines that require flushing.
  • Do not use chemicals on the Clean-Pour head unless specifically approved by Napa.
  • Do not substitute a water-dispensing cycle for the Test Pour procedure.

Napa’s dispensing design keeps the wine path limited to the bottle, removable pickup tube, and Clean-Pour dispensing head. This is why conventional internal line-flushing procedures are not required.
